In the last year he released a CD, Sirens Of The Apocalypse and an EP, Son Of A Gun on Contraphonic. His research and scholarly activities are focused on sound design, project-based. At a studio he started with Brian Eno in Brooklyn, he has since realized albums by Sonic Youth, Swans, John Zorn, Africa Bambaataa, The Dresden Dolls, Herbie Hancock’s Rockit, Boredoms, Helmet, White Zombie, Cop Shoot Cop, Material/Bill Laswell, Foetus, Serena Maneesh and others. The evening begins at 7.30pm with a screening of Bisi’s film Sound and Chaos. The film is mostly about his work with Brian Eno, the Swans, Sonic Youth and the Dresden Dolls. Earlier this year, I went to the Passenger Bar, a dimly lit and lovingly arrayed watering hole in Williamsburg, to see the first show in a month-long residency by Cinema Cinema. At the studio Martin built he has worked with and recorded some amazing artists from the 80s-90s. His rundown Brooklyn basement proved to have birthed a surprising variety of NYC music. This is a peek into Brooklyns famous although haggard BC studio and a look at its owner Martin Bisi. After a chance New York encounter, the studio was founded with money from Brian Eno, who subsequently worked on the album On Land there. Martin Bisi is the legendary studio producer from New York who has worked with pretty much everybody who matters.
